eix acts like the Gentoo Linux (www.gentoo.org) tool "eix" and it searches for "ebuilds" (software packages) on portage (gentoo's software collection). The syntax is very simple: "eix bash" is pointing you to the bash shell in portage. Searching/Finding is done via the www.gentoo-portage.com Website (which looks far cooler than the official packages.gentoo.org ;-) ).
