A handsome French marquetry chest of drawers - or tall boy
We date this to circa 1880 and in the Louis XVI transitional style
with a rich rouge marble top and finely figured kingwood veneers arranged in striking chevron and bookmatched patterns across the drawer fronts
The chest is fitted with a series of graduated drawers, each framed with crossbanding and inlaid stringing, and retains its original gilt bronze mounts and ring handles, with decorative gilt-bronze corner mounts and elegant cabriole legs terminating in sabots
The overall colour and patination are warm and lustrous, with excellent decorative impact and classical Louis XVI / transitional influence
Bought from a dealer on Marche Biron at the Paris antiques markets
Offered in great shape ready for home use right away
